Have a great May bankholiday … and a little progress update along the way

by Sproggy — Categories: Phinx News4 Comments

Ok for everyone in the UK … enjoying this nice long weekend … i hope the sun stays shining …

well we are into the 5th month of the year already … i am still eagerly looking for new hands to help onboard the good ship Phinx …

firstly i am gonna lay some rumours to rest … yes i was thinking about rebasing to another distro after recent events with the current PCLOS Regime … basically because i didnt like what the Admins are doing on the forum to the users … and the Distro … i have since been banned along with my son who has done nothing to the PCLOS Admins… hey ho … bye the bye so to speak …

i have instead rather than it be based on PCLOS … i am infact re-rolling PCLOS as a distro and i will be incorporating parts of Mandriva/ Magaeia/ CentOS/ OpenSUSE and Fedora to help create a unified based …

This should mean that current users should see no changes or feel any hiccups along the way … will just be a new experience for newer users thats all …

so everyone can rest easy … and i hope to have the 32bit final and the 64bit RC1 ready for the end of the month … so fingers crossed guys :D

Kori :D

    So, You are planning to build Your own distro instead of use one minimal install of some other and then made some changes? And using some parts of 5 distros? That must be hard to do. And will it be a rolling distro? Can You package so many packages? Why not using archlinux as base and then do Your own specific packages as You used to do with pclinux? I really like some tools from distros You mentioned like MCC, Yast and some others. Why not do something like Linux Mint developers done with LM debian edition? They use the debian unstable repositories but release service packs instead of all packages. From time to time, lets say a month, they package the ones that don’t have problems. Anyway I wish all the best and can’t wait to try new release.

    LMDE doesn’t use Debian Unstable as base. They based it on Debian Testing.

    Also there will be other packagers for Phinx, it’s not only going to be Sproggy alone. He did say he is still eagerly looking for new hands on board of Phinx.

    So…. why not just jump in and reach a helping hand with packaging if you’re in doubt about a few things…..? ;) :D

    By the way, i forgot to mention that Phinx will remain a rolling distro indeed.

    @Dark

    Yes You are correct about LMDE. Sorry. About helping in packaging, i can´t do anything cause I don´t know how to. I don´t have the know how so it´s best to stay away from things I can´t do. My contributions are in xfce itself cause i´m one of the official translators and that´s the only thing I can do. If You guys need help with translations , then I can do something. Either your own packages (maybe remastered) or .desktop files.

    Regards
